Inspired By Pinterest - fixing broken makeup!

I won't lie to you and tell you that I've been spending a great deal of money on makeup lately.

Most days, I'm in "paint clothes" with my hair piled on top of my head, with only eyeliner and mascara to disguise my lack of sleep.
However, it still stinks when my bronzer or eyeshadow breaks and it almost always happens when I travel.

But now I have Pinterest to save the day!  Thanks to Allison at Petit Elefant for this great tip!!  Allison, grab yourself a button if you'd like!

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

Definitely check our her tutorial, her photos are sooo much better than mine!! Her makeup is also more expensive, so no wonder she came up with this great solution.  Mine's a cheapy from Target - don't judge!

So, here's what I started with.  A small, broken sad little container of blush and some rubbing alcohol.

I put it in a plastic bag and used a spoon to crush what was still intact.

Then, using a syringe, I added a little bit of the rubbing alcohol.  I didn't measure or anything (you're not surprised though are you?)

I pushed it down with a quarter, but ended up using my fingers (messy!) I'd also say, based on this photo, that I used too much rubbing alcohol!

Here's the final product after about 24 hours!  Awesome!

Inspired by Pinterest - Family Eye Chart

I've seen a lot of great spin-offs on subway art, but this one was caught my eye!

Photobucket
It's from FrillyChiliDesign

I used the free online program Custom Eye Chart Maker as a start, then added extra characters in Picasa.

I thought it seemed more like a true eye chart with black lettering (but that might just be my poor vision!)

I printed an 8x10 on cardstock and put it in an 8x10 frame (because that's what was on hand.)  I do think the larger frame might look better.  Either way it's pretty cute!  What do you think?

Inspired By Pinterest - Paper Cupcake Liner Decoration

It's almost birthday time again for us!  I'm not sure how I feel about my 'baby' turning 5 - I'll get back to you in a few weeks!
Luckily I have my handy, creative sidekick (Pinterest) to bail me out when I draw a blank for party and decorating ideas.  (Especially when the almost-5-year-old doesn't want a "theme" for his party!?!?)

I made this 5, using colorful paper cupcake liners!

The idea came from this pin, originally from Beth at Beth Kruse Custom Creations.

Photobucket

I simply cut the 5 from cardboard and painted it white.

I put two of the liner papers together back-to-back (turn one inside out) and used a chop stick to form them.  Then I glued them to the board.

The whole project took less than 20 minutes and I used fewer than 100 liners, so it was very inexpensive.

Cute and simple! I plan to hang it eventually, but he loves his 5 and carries it around with him everywhere!

Thank you Beth, for the inspiration! Please grab a button!

Inspired by Pinterest - Valentines for Boys

Apparently, Valentine's Day is all about hearts, chocolate, rainbows, fluffy bunnies, butterflies, poems and flowers.  Unless you live at my house with 6 "non-girly types".  (Yes, even the cat and the dog are boys!)

So, when I found these Forceful Valentines Cards, I seriously wanted to hug this woman!!

Turns out, "this woman" is Holly at Stitch/Craft and she is awesome and made it SO easy for everyone to download these cute cards.

I cut them out, (no laughing at my old-school cutter)

used a hole punch and had my kiddos sign them,

inserted the glow stick (8 for $1 at Dollar Tree) and taped it in place on the back.

I think they're so much cuter than most of the store-bought kids cards!
And who needs more candy, right?!?! Yay!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Inspired by Pinterest - The Angry Bird Party

Nearly every idea for this party came from Pinterest!  I love that Pinterest provides us with such an amazing way to keep track of ideas and an outlet for sharing all the creativity out there!  I also love these dopey looking birds!

Here are the invitations.

The Angry Birds party was a success!  There were happy 13 kiddos running around and one Birthday Boy who beamed the whole day.

I made fruit kabobs...

a homemade Angry Birds game in addition to the store-bought one...
(No, these weren't made by a pre-schooler.  Just me and my sharpie.  Even as ugly as they are, I think the kids liked them best!)

I made the "goodie bags"...

an "it's so ugly, it's cute" King Pig cake....
(Okay, it wasn't very pretty but it tasted good.  I was quite proud of the crown though.  I cut and painted a plastic margarine container and then glued on a few jewels!)

streamers, and other decorations....

and the kids took part in several "Pinterest Inspired" activities, including a science experiment and games!

Check out my Pinterest boards to find the details and original sources for all of these great projects!

Inspired by Pinterest - Bacon Pancake-y Things

I'm going to try at least one of the amazing projects that I've pinned on Pinterest and share my attempt each Monday. (Even if the outcome is embarrassing. Like this one.)

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos
I pinned these yummy looking bacon pancakes from Mr. Breakfast.

Bacon cooking.  Seriously, I don't have a griddle.  Isn't that the saddest thing you've ever heard?

The instructions were to make the batter with less liquid than normal to keep the batter from running.  Maybe the Wheat & Honey mix had something to do with it, but the batter seemed too thick.

Okay, these are seriously not pretty.

{And then I started to remember my recent introduction to Brunch from My Drunk Kitchen.  I swear my coffee was straight, but once I started giggling, I couldn't stop.  I'm laughing now.  Just Google it.  I take no responsibility for how hard you laugh.  No kids in the room though.}

Anyway, everyone thought they tasted good, but given a decent amount of syrup, doesn't EVERYTHING?

Honestly, when I cut into one, the bacon fell away from the pancake anyway, so why not just cook pancakes and bacon separately and then put them together at the end?  Mystery solved.

So, what have we learned today? 1) Clearly, Martha has nothing to fear from me and 2) sometimes the simplest method is best, at least at my house!

Have you tried these?  Was your outcome better (or at least prettier) than mine?
