Ch ch ch ch changes.. and a Chest of Drawers

I'm going to ask you a favor.

I'd love for you to "like" me, if you don't already.

I'm hoping to incorporate my "work smarter, not harder" mantra into my blog.

So, going forward, my blog will become secondary (audible gasp here) to my facebook page as a way to showcase my work.

I know, I know.  Look at me all bucking the trends and whatnot.

I promise to come back and write full posts whenever a project deserves more detail, more explanation, or maybe even has a before picture too hideous for the meek.

What I also promise is to be much more timely and consistent about adding photos of my work on Facebook!

I hope this works out as well for you as I'm hoping it works for me.

Thank you for being a friend!

The Humor in Craigslist

It's probably no secret that I love Craigslist.  With only one exception, I've found that the people who buy and sell on Craigslist are nice, genuine people.

Finding an antique or vintage piece that was unloved or unneeded, fixing it up and giving it drama and a new life makes me a happy, happy girl! (A few examples: here, here, and here)

But let's be honest, Craigslist is also pretty darn funny.  *disclaimer:  I'm about to poke fun at a few people, so if you're sensitive to that sort of thing, just look away.  I'm not perfect and don't expect anyone else to be, but this stuff is just funny.

Craigslist is full of typos, grammatical, and spelling errors. "Dinning Room Table" and  "Chair for sell" are common.  I get it.  People are in a hurry, who has time for spelling and grammar, right?

But, I have to give a shout-out to an entire population of people who give a guy named Chester a LOT of credit.  Almost daily I see this....

Chester?  Really?  It's so common.  Maybe this post can serve as a public service announcement.  It is an upright chest, with drawers people!  Or maybe, unbeknownst to me, in certain parts of the county a Chest of Drawers DOES pay homage to the Great Chester, Builder of Drawers.

Here are two more of my favorites...

Mirrows and Draws.  Yes.

Now, I'll admit, I freely exchange the terms dresser and chest of drawers and some furniture purists are probably poking fun at me.  But that's okay because I LIKE fun!  Don't you?

Friday

Aqua Dresser Reveal (Spray Victim #1)

You may remember this dresser from a previous post (here).  It's the first piece I've done using my new spray gun!  I really love how the gun makes quick work of painting and dry time!

 ta-da!

The prep work was basically the same.  I sanded and cleaned, re-glued and clamped a couple of the drawers and corrected a few flaws with wood filler.

Then I gave it 3 light-to-medium coats of paint (light coats are better, but sometimes I can't help myself!)

Then I distressed lightly and waxed using clear wax first and then a mixture of dark and clear.  I buffed the wax and put back the "original" hardware, which I love and is stamped with "1960".  (I'm not sure if the hardware is original to the piece, but it was on it when I bought it!)

Not bad for a first go at it (if I may say so myself!)

Wednesday

How fast is YOUR chest of drawers?

Honestly Officer, I didn't even know my dresser would do 105!

The first time I saw this...

someone had pinned it with the comment "For the Billiards Room".

I was confused.

I guess when your husband drives this... (not during the winter)
you see that pretty piece of furniture a little differently.  Vroom, vroom.

Here's the before.  Not my style.  (Lego books anyone? Not to mention an inch of dust!)

I painted it black satin and used an overhead projector to hand-paint the number dot and stripe.  (Which, by the way, was A LOT more difficult to do than I would have guessed.  My circle isn't perfect and my numbers are just crooked enough!)

Then, I painted the knobs to disguise them.

And Voila!  Fun "Cobra Inspired" bombe race chest!
Fast enough for ya?

Sidenote: The chest that was my inspiration was originally pinned on Pinterest about 1 year ago.  I wound my way backwards to try to find the original source, only to find that the photo had been uploaded with no source listed.  If you happen to know it, please let me know!

That said; I'd love it if you'd follow my blog (in whatever method you prefer) GFC, Linky, by email, Facebook, or Pinterest (or all of the above)!  Thanks - it really means a lot!!!!

Ugly Dresser Makeover

Ugly? Yes! $9.99? Yes! I had so much inspiration for this piece that I knew I could make it something special!
I especially love the amazing transformations from Brooke at All Things Thrifty!
I always love what she does with color, but I ended up with a favorite, Blue Ocean Breeze, from Krylon - it's like an edgier Tiffany blue!

I had to repair two drawers and replace the center pull.
