Wednesday

NOT your little girls headboard!

I found a vintage, pink, vinyl, diamond-tufted, king-sized headboard and fell in love.

Love at first sight can have it's problems though. Pink headboards are probably best reserved for little girls.  Most little girls don't have king-sized beds.  Hmmmmm.

So, I paid a visit to my nearest auto parts store and picked up a can of spray paint.  Yep, paint made specifically for car interiors of the "pleather" variety.  I chose black.

The end result makes me want to grab an old motorcycle jacket and go for a ride!

I'm so happy with how it turned out!

Recent Vintage Finds

I wanted to share some of the fun vintage decor I've found over the past couple of weeks!

This Spanish carved wood box is so cool.  I love the dragons and the feet!

Don't you love these great vintage seltzer bottles and glassware?  The bottles were made in Austria.

I promise to put together a better vignette in the shop!

The tray wasn't always this pretty.  I can live without the bugs devouring my salad, thanks. So, I added handles and gave it a shiny new paint job.

Did you notice that the handles don't match.  Nah, I didn't think so.

Love this vintage Polaroid camera!!

These are all going in the booth for the June sale at Hello Sailor- I can't wait!!!

Saturday

Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner!!!

I've been a lucky girl feeling a lot of blogland love lately and I wanted to share some of things that have arrived on my doorstep.

Gwen, at The Bold Abode, was showing off her gorgeous new blog design and celebrated with a giveaway from Three Little Monkeys Studio and I won!  Here's an awesome party pack that I'm considering.

Gretchen has a ton of really cute stuff in her Etsy shop - you'll have to check it out - and I just found out that she actually lives less than 20 miles from me!  Crazy, huh?

I also won a beautiful bracelet from Homage Style and Charming Darling!
It's so pretty I'm almost afraid to wear it!  (It'll just end up with paint on it!)

I also received 3 cans of Valspar spray-paint from DIY Show Off.

I love the new 'locking' nozzle on these cans and who can't use more spray-paint!?!?!

Then, my blue and ebony sideboard (read about it HERE) was featured by Clydia at Three Mango Seeds!  If you haven't been to visit her, you really should!

I also received The Versatile Blogger Award from Heather at Setting for Four!!  Heather is a friend who's always supportive of me when I need it most!  Thanks Heather!

Told ya I was lucky!  Thanks to all of you!!!

Wednesday

How fast is YOUR chest of drawers?

Honestly Officer, I didn't even know my dresser would do 105!

The first time I saw this...

someone had pinned it with the comment "For the Billiards Room".

I was confused.

I guess when your husband drives this... (not during the winter)
you see that pretty piece of furniture a little differently.  Vroom, vroom.

Here's the before.  Not my style.  (Lego books anyone? Not to mention an inch of dust!)

I painted it black satin and used an overhead projector to hand-paint the number dot and stripe.  (Which, by the way, was A LOT more difficult to do than I would have guessed.  My circle isn't perfect and my numbers are just crooked enough!)

Then, I painted the knobs to disguise them.

And Voila!  Fun "Cobra Inspired" bombe race chest!
Fast enough for ya?

Sidenote: The chest that was my inspiration was originally pinned on Pinterest about 1 year ago.  I wound my way backwards to try to find the original source, only to find that the photo had been uploaded with no source listed.  If you happen to know it, please let me know!

That said; I'd love it if you'd follow my blog (in whatever method you prefer) GFC, Linky, by email, Facebook, or Pinterest (or all of the above)!  Thanks - it really means a lot!!!!

Powder Room Reveal

Calling this project a "Powder Room Makeover" sounds WAY more elegant than saying
"Hey, look at my toilet!"

I'm fancy like that.

The most used room in the house was SO boring.  Cue facelift music!!

I scored this great mirror on Craigslist and it became the inspiration for the room.

I read up on how to remove a builder-grade mirror and even texted a few friends for advice.  Piano wire?  None handy.  Pry bar?  Nope.  Picture wire?  Too thick.  Then it hit me - what I did have available on a Friday night around 9pm, was 14 flat-head screwdrivers and a rubber mallet.  Tap, tap, cringe, tap, tap, cringe, this went on for about 30 minutes then - pop!   The whole thing came off without any bad luck involved!

Just ignore that mess in the background.

Then I repaired and repainted the walls and hung the mirror.

At this point I had one gold mirror.  I also had an oil rubbed bronze light fixture, towel ring and tp holder.  Add in chrome knobs, door handle and faucet.  Too many metals for my taste.  So I did what any perfectly sane woman would do and I got out the spray paint.

So, I painted the faucet, the doorknob, the toilet flusher and even that little chrome stopper thing-a-ma-bob at the bottom of the sink.  (I did this back in November and still not a scratch!)  Here's the process... tape well and cover everything in sight.  Turn on the vent fan.  Spray a light coat.  Run and shut the door behind you!  Repeat several times over a 24 hour period.

Then one wall got some serious va-va-voom!!

I borrowed a stencil from a friend (thanks Jaylee!!) and used a gold paint pen.  Please take my advice and do this the easy way = buy gold paint and use a roller.  Your writing hand will thank you.

I'm crazy about this wall!  The way the gold reflects the light is amazing.

View from the floor (completely unnecessary in real life, by the way.)

You might remember this sneak peek.  We put adhesive-backed vinyl mustaches on the mirror for Christmas and New Years' parties!  Okay, I admit it, the mustaches are still there.

I'm still in search of a few more accessories, but I consider this small makeover a success!!
