Ch ch ch ch changes.. and a Chest of Drawers

I'm going to ask you a favor.

I'd love for you to "like" me, if you don't already.

I'm hoping to incorporate my "work smarter, not harder" mantra into my blog.

So, going forward, my blog will become secondary (audible gasp here) to my facebook page as a way to showcase my work.

I know, I know.  Look at me all bucking the trends and whatnot.

I promise to come back and write full posts whenever a project deserves more detail, more explanation, or maybe even has a before picture too hideous for the meek.

What I also promise is to be much more timely and consistent about adding photos of my work on Facebook!

I hope this works out as well for you as I'm hoping it works for me.

Thank you for being a friend!

Little Metallic Whatchamacallit

I've wanted to try metallic paint for awhile and this small dresser/buffet/nightstand/entry table/whatchamacallit seemed like the perfect victim.

Oh, you weren't expecting a REAL before photo were you?

It took a LOT of sanding and a few million coats of primer to get it perfectly smooth.

It's such a cute little thing, but too small to really hold much in the way of clothes.

So it became my whatchamacallit.

Also, thanks to Amy from The Salvage Collection for sharing with me (a LONG time ago) the idea to use these doors so that you all don't have to look at my driveway in every photograph!!

The Cheerleader

 Do you have a cheerleader?

Do you sometimes float along in life and forget that you need one?

Yesterday mine got me through a major funk.  I was disorganized, overwhelmed and stuck.

And just like she always does, my cheerleader said all of those magic things.

You know, those things that you KNOW in your heart and your head, but wow, does it ever make a difference to hear it from someone else?

When the doubt creeps in.  That's when you need your cheerleader.

I really hope you have one.

If you don't, send me an email.  I'll do my best to fill her cheerleader shoes for you.

The Humor in Craigslist

It's probably no secret that I love Craigslist.  With only one exception, I've found that the people who buy and sell on Craigslist are nice, genuine people.

Finding an antique or vintage piece that was unloved or unneeded, fixing it up and giving it drama and a new life makes me a happy, happy girl! (A few examples: here, here, and here)

But let's be honest, Craigslist is also pretty darn funny.  *disclaimer:  I'm about to poke fun at a few people, so if you're sensitive to that sort of thing, just look away.  I'm not perfect and don't expect anyone else to be, but this stuff is just funny.

Craigslist is full of typos, grammatical, and spelling errors. "Dinning Room Table" and  "Chair for sell" are common.  I get it.  People are in a hurry, who has time for spelling and grammar, right?

But, I have to give a shout-out to an entire population of people who give a guy named Chester a LOT of credit.  Almost daily I see this....

Chester?  Really?  It's so common.  Maybe this post can serve as a public service announcement.  It is an upright chest, with drawers people!  Or maybe, unbeknownst to me, in certain parts of the county a Chest of Drawers DOES pay homage to the Great Chester, Builder of Drawers.

Here are two more of my favorites...

Mirrows and Draws.  Yes.

Now, I'll admit, I freely exchange the terms dresser and chest of drawers and some furniture purists are probably poking fun at me.  But that's okay because I LIKE fun!  Don't you?

Friday

Gloria

Yep, she's big

and she's chunky

and even her curves have curves

(this is a Madagascar 2 reference of course)

This chest is by far the most distressed piece I've ever done.

After spraying everything in sight with my HLVP paint gun, I thought it might be fun to hand paint again (just to make sure I remembered how)

A little ASCP, clear wax, distressing, dark wax and buffing.

Chunky!  (and someone else must've loved her chippy, chunkiness, too - she was the first thing to sell in the July sale at Hello, Sailor! Yay!)

Wednesday

NOT your little girls headboard!

I found a vintage, pink, vinyl, diamond-tufted, king-sized headboard and fell in love.

Love at first sight can have it's problems though. Pink headboards are probably best reserved for little girls.  Most little girls don't have king-sized beds.  Hmmmmm.

So, I paid a visit to my nearest auto parts store and picked up a can of spray paint.  Yep, paint made specifically for car interiors of the "pleather" variety.  I chose black.

The end result makes me want to grab an old motorcycle jacket and go for a ride!

I'm so happy with how it turned out!
