I really was itching to take on a larger project when this beauty came into my life. And yes, I could punch myself for not taking better before pictures of the table itself!
It was a nice sturdy set, it just looked a little tired. I loved that it had 2 leaves and 6 chairs! I had visions of grandeur!
I started by adding these wood details to the 2 arm chairs.
Then I got down to brass tacks staples. 4,673 staples and 3 band-aids later, I had the seat covers off! Whew!
Okay, so not a lot of photos of the "during" phase, but let's just say it was time consuming!! I used a Sherwin Williams oil-based enamel paint (I wanted this baby to last). I will say, about 10 minutes into the painting process, I was wishing for my good old latex. But I finished painting, gave it some subtle distressing and sealed it off with a few coats of a clear protective polyurethane and here's the result!
I loved the lattice back of these chairs and I thought some great whimsical fabrics would really bring out the fun!
Fabric after and before the upholstery makeover.
The bad news is that my eyes were totally bigger than my stomach (or I should say, dining room) with this project! It doesn't fit! I'm so sad! But, lucky for someone else, that means it's going up for sale! Let me know if you're interested and I'll get you all the details, measurements, etc.
Love the different fabrics! What a great idea!
ReplyDeleteReally? It doesn't fit? From the pictures, it LOOKS like it fits... It's beautiful, Lori. How much are you asking for it? Or do you want to redo MY dining room table & chairs? LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this!!!!
ReplyDeleteMama, your dash of drama on these chairs is AWESOME!!! Love the way you used different fabrics! Why don't I see posts like this BEFORE I redo my chairs?! Great idea. Thanks for sharing over at Trash 2 Treasure on Kammy's Korner!

ReplyDeleteJaime, thanks so much! - Lori
@The one girl
ReplyDeleteThank you for the kind words! What you can't see in the pictures is that most of the table (even without the leaves) hangs out into a major 'traffic way' in our home. With 3 little boys, it's a trainwreck! ;D I'd love to redo yours!
@Kammy Wielenga
ReplyDeleteKammy, thank you!! I was hoping it wouldn't be too obnoxious to have all that different fabric!
Wow! What a gorgeous transformation!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely fantastic redo, Fellow WOI! Doesn't fit? Seems to... but, we don't know where the opposite wall is, do we! Come visit when you can.

ReplyDeleteWOW! It looks great!
ReplyDeleteHi! I'm actually wanting to redo a dining set similar to this (I'm a novice!!!) and was wondering if you have any tips on painting the lattice? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteby the way - it's gorgeous - I can only hope mine turns out so nice.

ReplyDeleteBeth, thanks so much!!
@Dale, Julie, Jaxon, Britta, and Max
ReplyDeleteThank you!!!
The caning on this back was a lot more flexible than some I'd seen before. I used a sponge brush to get in the tight spots (where it met the frame) and the rest I rolled with a sponge roller. It did take a few coats, but it wasn't as time consuming as I was expecting it to be! I was relieved that it was still flexible after I'd painted it, but I still won't be using oil-based enamel any time soon!
Good luck! Keep me posted on your makeover - I can't wait to see it! - Lori

I have just begun my journey in the diy world on my blog myrags2riches.blogspot.com I'm starting from scratch and loving every minute of it, thanks for the inspiration! I'm a new follower!
