Inspired by Fall - Wine Cellar (closet makeover)

Fall has always marked the beginning of "project season" for me. Although, I do consider it a year-round sport! For some reason, I get it in my head that when the kids go back to school, I'll suddenly have a lot of free time - ha! Well, free time or not, I've always started my most memorable projects in the fall.

I thought I'd go back and catalog some of my favorite past transformations before I start to talk about my current ones. Some of these are old enough that I couldn't locate any before pictures, but I think you'll get the idea.

Transforming a small basement closet into a small wine cellar was a LOT of fun. I started by taking out the baseboards and ripping out the carpet. Then got to the business of teaching myself how to tile a floor. I used extra tile that friends had donated from their own homes and I think it gave the floor a really unique look and some sentimental value. I also had the help of a friend to do the electrical work for the chandelier (it's remote controlled!) and my dear husband helped me put together the rack and fasten it to the wall. I did order a fun new door because it was such an unusual size. But, the floor, paint decor and the wall of cork were all me!! I hand-glued each cork to the wall, including a "rail" of champagne corks. Tedious, but therapeutic all at once and I love the outcome!! And in case you were wondering, we DIDN'T drink all the wine that it took to cover that wall!
