Fall has always marked the beginning of "project season" for me. Although, I do consider it a year-round sport! For some reason, I get it in my head that when the kids go back to school, I'll suddenly have a lot of free time - ha! Well, free time or not, I've always started my most memorable projects in the fall.
I thought I'd go back and catalog some of my favorite past transformations before I start to talk about my current ones. Some of these are old enough that I couldn't locate any before pictures, but I think you'll get the idea.
Transforming a small basement closet into a small wine cellar was a LOT of fun. I started by taking out the baseboards and ripping out the carpet. Then got to the business of teaching myself how to tile a floor. I used extra tile that friends had donated from their own homes and I think it gave the floor a really unique look and some sentimental value. I also had the help of a friend to do the electrical work for the chandelier (it's remote controlled!) and my dear husband helped me put together the rack and fasten it to the wall. I did order a fun new door because it was such an unusual size. But, the floor, paint decor and the wall of cork were all me!! I hand-glued each cork to the wall, including a "rail" of champagne corks. Tedious, but therapeutic all at once and I love the outcome!! And in case you were wondering, we DIDN'T drink all the wine that it took to cover that wall!
Lori I have to show this wine cellar to my husband, he is going to flip. I LOVE your wall of corks!!! Seriously - WOW!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lisa! I love this room and wish I had an excuse to "cork" another wall my house! I always have a hard time photographing small rooms though!
Deleteyour chandelier looks so beautiful, I love it.
ReplyDeleteThank you! It's one of my favorite pieces in the room! - Lori
DeleteI love the cork wall. I've seen cork used as a shower floor and really like it. I wonder how easy is it to keep clean on a wall? I'm thinking as use on a kitchen back splash with some handpainted tumbled marble tile.
ReplyDeleteHi, this is a great idea. Did you use hot glue? did you spray some sealer after? thanks
